This is what you get when a Tower Defense game is perfected.

Smooth graphics, complimentary sound/music and great gameplay makes this a must own UMD title.

I know this game has been long available on PSN, but it’s always been at $20.00. Did not purchase it but have heard from friends it’s worth every penny.

Finally decided to bite when the UMD version came out at a bargain price of $10. I would’ve paid $39.99 (normal price for UMD games) and it’d be worth every penny. From what I’ve read, I’ve got 35+ more hours to finish the game, needless to say I will have to play my PSP every chance I get.

Pixel Junk Monsters is a fun defense/stragety game.

You are Tikiman. One day, his town has become overridden with various, dangerous monters. You must keep them from reaching the hut and killing his flock. If all survive at the end of the level, then you get a rainbow. You must get 7 rainbows to move to the left side of the map, where new worlds await you.

Each level is different. It will describe each level and what you should do.

Towers cost money to build. You need to think carefully about where to place each tower, so they will have the desired effect. Most monsters will leave behind coins and blue gems. Gems are needed to buy a new tower. But you must hurry to collect the coins and gems left behind. They WILL disappear on you if you’re not fast enough. Sometimes you can find coins and gems through the trees.

The most difficult part of the game is figuring out which towers will kill which enemies. Each enemy is different and not all towers will do the same thing to every monster. For ex: Canon towers don’t have any effect at all on flying monters. They don’t even fire. Arrow towers are helpful, but still not good enough. You need an airgun tower, and alot of them if there are a lot of flying monsters.

There are four different colored flags you can upgrade your tower to: Blue, yellow, purple and black. You can upgrade each tower to its fullest, which is black and gold. The tower will have a black flag and a gold base. This is the most powerful. Blue is the weakest. You can use the blue gems to upgrade quicker. You need the correct amount to do so. Standing directly in front of a tower and dancing will slowly upgrade your tower, but it takes longer. It takes longer with each color.

This game is extremely addictive. You can become obsessed with trying to get 7 rainbows to get to the other side of the map.

If you played PJM on PS3, this is a perfect translation to the PSP platform. For a mere $10, you get 30+ levels along with new towers! This game is also available for download from Playstation Store as well for the same price of $10. Highly recommended!!!

This game is good but it’s definitely outclassed by other tower defense games, namely Plants vs. Zombies. There just isn’t enough variation in the towers and in the monsters themselves. The levels are all different, I will give the game that, but I found myself wanting more upgrades and more enemies to fight. But overall, it’s a decent game for what you pay for.

Other than that, everything else is good. It’s nicely animated, the music is interesting, and the fact that the game is only 10 dollars makes it a steal. I could just go for some more variation.

    the pros:

-easy enough for a child to play

    -requires a bit of strategy

-encourages children to think and problem solve

-not paying big bucks for big graphics, its kept cartoon-like

    the cons:

    -very simple Tower Defense game

-can get boring quickly if you are a big TD fan

Honest opinion: If I had a child, I would probably be much happier with this game. But since I bought it for myself, I kind of feel like it wasn’t money well spent. This is a very basic tower defense style game, and I haven’t found as much challenge in it as I have in many others. My 5 year old nephew absolutely loves it though, and that is the only reason I will keep it in my collection.

For anybody new to the tower defense genre, or who has a younger child who is allowed to play “clean” games, this would be a good one to look at.

If you are a little more used to playing TD and strategy games, I’m guessing you would be happier if you kept searching.
