Nintendo DS Screen Protector

This product was far better than I had dared expect.

If you have read the other reviews carefully, there are a number of skeptical reviews for this product. Because of this, I debated long and hard whether to get it. In the end, I decided that was worth the risk.

Here are a few important advices:

-For this product to work perfectly, you MUST read the short 2 page manual that comes with it. Read and follow it carefully.

-You only get 1 try. Once you put the filler on, its there to stay. Even if there are air bubbles or any problems with it, DO NOT TRY AGAIN. It will definitely not make it better. Wait a while to see if it improves, if not, then you should probably just get a new filler.

-Since you only get 1 try, be sure to remove all dust particles. From my experience, I don't even notice the dust particles during game play. However, I can imagine it being annoying if there are too much.

There were 3 issues I was originally worried about:

1. The air bubbles.

When I first placed the filter on, there were immediately a lot of air bubbles (notably in the lower screen). At first I was rather disappointed because bubbles are obviously annoying. HOWEVER, after about 3 hours of game play, the air bubbles quite miraculously DISAPPEARED. ALL OF THEM. The filter will 'learn' to fit your screen. Don't even bother to push them out (which is what the manual suggests) because they will go away on their own. But you MUST wipe the screens completely. Don't reapply the filters. It will not make them better.

2. I read in one of the reviews that the lower screen gets scratched (/get marked) anyway even if the filter is on.

This is not true. I already had a few scratches on my ds before I applied the filters, and the filters actually canceled out all those scratches (they disappeared). Eventually (about a month), there will be some scratch marks on the filter but I consider the quality of the filter extremely high regardless and none of this distract game play. There will never be any scratch marks on the ds screen itself once the filter is on (I removed my filter once to reuse it on another ds and noticed no new scratch marks on the screen).

3. "the green logo sticker they glue in the center of each protector" (from another review) that damages the screen.

If you read the manual, you will notice that this sticker isn't even on the filter itself. Both filters have 2 filters (one on each side) that originally protect it and the logo is on one of the disposable filter protectors.

This product is perfect. But for it to work, the manual must be read because if you even try to remove the filters, they will in effect be ruined.

If you were ever thinking about purchasing a set of protective filters for your ds lite screens, then look no further because the nintendo ds lite filters by Hori are absolutely amazing. Two come in the package: one top filter, to reduce glare, and one bottom filter, to protect the touch screen from scratches. The question, though, is: how do they work? I admit that I haven't tried putting on the top filter, as I don't see a need to. Yes I realize that it's supposed to reduce glare, however the ds lite manual, in the first few pages, recommends that no filters be placed over the top screen, and as of now, I haven't had any real problems with glare as I mainly play at night... Perhaps later if I ever do put it on, I'll edit my review... As for the bottom filter... the essential one, all I can say is PERFECT!!! It goes on well with very small and few air bubbles, which can be pushed out, and improves the feel of the touchscreen. That's not to say that the filters feel sticky or anything, I just feel that they slightly improve the touchscreen feel, by making it less slick, however that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. The filters do leave about a 1mm margin on all sides, where they do not protect the touchscreen, however it's highly unlikely that there will ever be a game that you need to tap that close to the side... The space is so small that you hardly notice, plus it makes taking the filter off easier, and allows room for the air bubbles to escape; so believe me, it's a very good thing. As for the filter, once it's on you can take it off with some tape as you feel necessary, however there will likely be no need to (note that when you do take off the filter to clean or whatever, no sticky residue is left behind as the filter uses static to stay on). The filter protects well and feels like one with the ds lite; therefore if you were ever considering a filter for your ds lite, this is the one. Go get it now and protect your precious ds lite...

I got these screen protectors when I got my DS Lite. I wanted to keep my screens looking new, and this product was great for me. First, make sure your screen is clean before you start! I peeled the backing without touching the sticky part. I lined up one edge, then started laying it down from one side. The protector just seemed to cling right to the screen, I had very little smoothing with the card to do. This went well for both screens. A year later, they are still in good shape, though I may replace the one on the touch screen. My sister got a different brand for her son and had to replace it in a month. I know other reviewers had problems, but I found them to be better than most!

Update:

After having these protectors on my DS for nearly two years, they have held up great. I have also applied the same to two other DS's and they both went as easily...once you line up the protector, it practically attaches itself. I wish I could get these protectors for everything needing screen safety!

Nintendo DS Lite Invisi Shields

I've had great luck with Pelican accessories, and these screen protectors are no exception. There's one for each screen and with proper installation these will last you a long time.

For starters you must clean your screen with a lint-free cloth BEFORE you install these guys. If not you'll get dirt trapped beneath the shields. You also want to make sure your screens are dry if you had to clean them with a Windex or something similar.

The touch screen shield has more stickyness and is harder to install. Just start at one corner and use a flat plastic to smooth out the bubbles.

The top screen is a little thicker with a border. I've had that one move on me, but I stabalized it with some adhesive on the edges.

Avoid screen protectors made by Switch&Carry (BD&A) as those are problematic. Overall, I can't say anything but positives about Pelican. Just take your time to install these properly.

I'm very picky when it comes to taking care of my little technologies(call phone, NDS, etc.) When I play my ds, I forget the fact that it is there. I have had it on since July and it has never fallen off. Neither have the corners curled. These simple screen protectors work wonders

This is a Hori screen protector, branded under the Nintendo DSi name/packaging. Many consider Hori to be the best, I find it tied with Martin-Fields Overlay in the screen protector department category.

I bought a Nintendo branded third-party screen protector in their "clean and protect" kit, and it was AWFUL--very difficult to apply, and not as effective. Other third-party screen protectors have left a film/residue, that is why I say brand matters. My experience with the Hori/Nintendo co-branded product was smooth and easy and it's been quite effective on my DS Lite and DSi.

A good tip for the application process is to have a credit card or something similar handy, and press gently down and forward simultaneously as you peel it off, because if you don't "smooth it out" you will end up with air bubbles, or particles of dust which create visual imperfections.

The reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is, while this does provide excellent screen protection, the glare reduction advertised seems minimal. I use screen protectors on just about everything electronic and portable that I have (iPod, phone, DS, DSi, GBA, etc.) and I find the glare reduction noticeable, but relatively minor. The real reason, I think, to buy this is to avoid scratches and other blemishes, which this does fantastically.

I'm not sure if the "new" DSi screen is scratch-blemish resistant, but in my experience when it comes to portable electronic devices, just about everything will develop scratches and blemishes, under normal use, if not protected. The iPhone/iPod touch is the one exception I have found to this rule, other than that, I would say, if you want to keep it "like new" it's a relatively inexpensive investment.

you'll need:

-q-tip

-small damp paper towel

-small dry paper towel

-and possibly a compressed air can

i applied a few minutes ago with good results, no air bubbles, and only about one or two dust stuck dust particles. the first thing you want to do is wipe the screen down with the damp paper towl, and dry it up with dry paper towel, make sure to get into the corners with the q-tip. do this a second time, the given lint free cloth only made things worse for me. do one screen at a time, because dust starts settling immediately.

now for the application. Remember, both stickers are DIFFERENT SIZES. one is for the top screen, and one is for the bottom scree, make sure you differentiate before you peel off the first tab. the stickers are SLIGHTLY smaller than the screen, but it didn't keep me from touching the corners of my touch screen with my stylus, i could color the corners in the flip book app. I slowly and carefully put the protector down starting from the opposite corner of the PEEL OFF sticker. I curved the protector down to keep bubbles from growing. i slowly pasted it down until it was perfectly centered. REMEMBER, once the protector under the sticker is down and clear, IT CAN'T BE REMOVED. i was able to reapply it a few times because i made sure the protector wasn't completely applied. i did the same thing for the top screen, with no bubbles and a few dust particles

i didn't know the protectors were different sizes, so i ended up peeling one off, but for the wrong screen... which is why i have a few dust particles stuck, otherwise, it would have been perfect.

They fit perfectly. The peel tabs were not fresh and could not be removed. I have to buy fresh from somewhere else. Not worth the time to try to get this right.

Bought two packs because of the second review. I needed something for my two DSIs I bought for my kids. Just as she said, it does not fit and you need to trim a little off the side of the bottom screen protector. If you jam it in there it will leave your touchscreen useless. Otherwise, it does it's job.

I owned a Palmtop in the past and it taught me that one should never touch a touch screen with a stylus without a screen protector in between. Some tapping is okay, but once you start writing, you'll get scratches on your screen very quickly. So now that I bought a Nintendo DS, I added screen protectors to my order right away.

The material isn't really like what I had on my Palm. When putting it on the screen, I had the impression it wouldn't really stand writing/sliding over it with the stylus. After playing Brain Age for a while, it seems I was wrong, the protectors still look perfect.

There are still some bubbles, but they're not really visible when the screen's turned on so I don't mind them.

These certainly offer the best value for your money.

It is perfect for protection of your Nintendo DS Lite touch screen even with a lot of use. Especially for games that require alot of use of the touch screen like the Nintendogs series and the word games. I love my Nintendo DS Lite and play it often while sitting at home or traveling. I got 2 sets of the screen protectors, especially at this price, so that I would have plenty available.

I purchased the Invisi-Shied for my nephew's new DSi. Unfortunately, when we opened up the pack, the tape on the shield did not come off cleanly. Trying to take the residue off only made it worse. As such, we were never able to take advantage of the shield.

This screen protector is awful! It is very cheaply made. We made sure we placed the film down as careful as we could & it still had many small air bubbles under it. We tried to get them out but couldn't. A few days later my son asked me to remove it because he hated how blurry it made his screen. When I looked at his DSi screen, it was full of deep scratches all over the film not to mention all the little bubbles! I cannot believe I paid for this protector & it lasted only 2 days! I am going to purchase the more expensive Hori brand because it has better ratings.
